How about we have kids honey?

How about we have kids honey.jpgIsn’t it an amazing time of life, when you decide that you want to bring a new person into the world. Scary and exciting all at once. We don’t get to go to ‘parent-school’ and there is no set of rules that guarantee success. Not only that, but suddenly you will have all this added responsibility – and it’s there to stay – or at least for a very long time.

Thinking about having kids makes us think about lots of things – how I get my body ready so my baby has the best chance of good health, what do we need to buy / change about our home so we can look after a baby, how do we protect them while allowing them to learn to be independent, how do we keep them safe while allowing them to learn to take risks, - and as they grow older we need to start to thinking about what sports they will like to play, what school they will go to, what TV should they watch, and so on and so on.

Luckily in NZ we have many advantages that some other potential parents don’t have. We have a great health care system, access to support networks like Plunket and ReachMe (love their ReachMe packs – almost like a Kiwi version of Finland’s world-famous ‘baby box’), the Kindergarten association of NZ and schools. We have a clean, healthy environment to bring our kids up in, and we don’t have the worries of civil war or unrest that many other parents around the world need to deal with.

And while bringing up kids is one of the toughest jobs in the world, it is also the most rewarding – after all you are creating the future of New Zealand aren’t you?

And just in case you’re wondering why we mentioned ReachMe – it’s because at Pinnacle Life we’re proud to be supporters of the ReachMe packs as we know how frantic new (and pending) parenthood can be – and we believe in doing things that make lives easier and simpler!
